The X-Men’s Jean Grey is back in six new covers for Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey, a five-issue series written by Matthew Rosenberg with art by Leinil Yu, Carlos Pacheco, Joe Bennett, Ramon Rosanas and Khoi Pham. Today, Marvel Comic unveiled the six covers and some solicitation information for the miniseries.
According to Marvel’s synopsis for the series,
This January, fan-favorite mutant Jean Grey returns to the X-Men and the Marvel Universe… and she’s not alone. Do Jean and Phoenix bring the world life? Or is the destruction of the universe imminent? The mystery unfolds in this five-part epic from blockbuster writer Matthew Rosenberg, featuring five different superstar artists, including startling 3D motion covers with art by Leinil Yu!

Marvel also released information about Jean Grey #11, which will act as a “critical” Phoenix Resurrection tie-in. The issue will find her “fighting her biggest psych war yet — against the Phoenix!”
“I’ve been an X-Men fan my whole life and Jean is, in my mind, the true soul of the X-Men. So we aren’t taking this lightly,” Rosenberg said in an earlier statement. “We’re going for that perfect balance of universe shaking epic and intimate personal drama that only the X-Men ever truly achieve. This is all hands on deck for the X-Men as every available member heads into battle for the soul of their team and maybe even the fate of the Marvel Universe.”

The Phoenix has seen a rise in profile across the Marvel Universe in recent months. Not only is the cosmic entity at the heart of the current Jean Grey series (written by Dennis Hopeless), which follows the adventures of a time-displaced teenage version of the popular original X-Man, it will also be part of the publisher’s upcoming Marvel Legacy one-shot. There, in a story by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, the Phoenix will be part of the original Avengers team from 1,000,000 BC. What’s more, she will be in a romantic relationship with Odin, a revelation readers first learned of in the Generations: Thor one-shot.
Written by Matthew Rosenberg with art by various artists, Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey goes on sale in January.
