Marvel Comics’ Infinity Warps mashups have already drawn a great deal of attention for their unique character fusions, but not all the splices were ready for the big time. Writer Donny Cates today revealed one Infinity Warp that won’t be making it into the upcoming miniseries. Cates revealed the canned mashup today during CBR’s coverage of Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

That mashup’s name is Deadbolt, an amalgamation of Deadpool and Black Bolt. The problem with that Infinity Warp is likely apparent to anyone who knows about these two characters. Black Bolt is the King of the Inhumans whose Terrigenesis transformation rendered his voice a deadly weapon — even a slight utterance is powerful enough to kill.

Meanwhile, Deadpool is the Merc with a Mouth, a loud- and foul-mouthed mercenary made more annoying by the fact that his healing factor powers render him nigh invincible. Combining the two would require a delicate balance between Black Bolt’s constant restraint and Deadpool’s complete lack thereof.

So far, the list of Infinity Warps includes Soldier Supreme, a mashup of Captain America and Doctor Strange; Iron Hammer, a mashup of Iron Man and Thor; Weapon Hex, a mashup of X-23 and Scarlet Witch; Arachknight, a mashup of Spider-Man and Moon Knight; Ghost Panther, a mashup of Ghost Rider and Black Panther.

“We spent almost a full day at the creative summit coming up with the most ridiculous combinations,” Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said of how the initial batch of Infinity Warps were first conceived. Cebulski and Marvel Comics Executive Editor Nick Lowe reiterated that the Infinity Warps are not gimmick mashups. Rather, the characters are integral to upcoming Infinity Wars Prime and “are a huge part of the story in a way you can’t see coming.”

The Infinity Warps were first teased in a social media campaign back in June. Artist Humberto Ramos kicked off the speculation by posting a largely black-and-white picture of the assembled Infinity Warps, along with “#WhoGetsWarped?” Cebulski and writers Gerry Duggan, Al Ewing and Ben Blacker joined in the teasing shortly after.

Marvel announced the first batch of Infinity Warps a few days later, revealing the September release dates for both Infinity Wars: Soldier Supreme #1 and Infinity Wars: Iron Hammer #1. The publisher revealed the release months for Infinity Wars: Weapon Hex #1, Infinity Wars: Arachknight #1 and Infinity Wars: Ghost Panther #1 in July. All Infinity Warps will run for two issues.

Infinity Wars: Soldier Supreme #1 releases on Sept. 19. Infinity Wars: Iron Hammer #1 releases on Sept. 26. Infinity Wars: Ghost Panther #1 releases in November. Infinity Wars: Arachknight #1 and Infinity Wars: Weapon Hex #1 will release in October.
