20 Anime Characters With Identifiable Green Hair

The green-haired anime character is showing up less and less in anime these days as there continues to be a stronger shift towards more traditional hair colors. However, it has always had its roots deeply woven in moe.

In many cases, a green-haired character is how you want to imagine yourself. They are energetic and the life of any scene. In many cases, they are the character that people form the deepest bonds with and identify with. However, unlike other anime hair colors, a green haired anime character can be many things. They can be impish tricksters. They can be the jealous green-eyed (and haired) monster. They can be aloof or deceptive. That is why it is difficult to choose who personifies green anime hair best because they can be so many things, but here we go!

CC from Code Geass

Code Geass – sponsored by Pizza Hut

In Code Geass, CC very often just chills out in the background…Often just eating. However, when she does meddle in affairs, you can’t always be sure she is doing good things. She personifies the impish side of green hair. Often she seems bored with the going-ons and you don’t really know her true purpose until much later in the story. Yet, you still like her as a character, because if you’re honest, you’d be the aloof, food-eating alien in every anime story.

Zoro from One Piece

A more memorable green-haired character there is not. Zoro is the anime character that everyone wants to be. He is insanely strong, but to him, he is never strong enough. He’s the type of character that can’t use just dual swords, he has to be ridiculous and use three. He is that endless warrior energy that everyone wants to see more of.

Shion/Mion from Higurashi: When They Cry

One of these twins is not like the other.

One of these twins is batshit crazy!

Higurashi plays twins in the only way twins should be played, where one is actually the other, but not really because switched names when they were young. Regardless of which of these girls commit horrible murder, they both act in a similar energetic and cheery way that makes the event more shocking. Yet, if you examine them close enough, you can find that one is a bit more refined while the other is a little more moe.

Midorima from Kuroko’s Basketball

Seeing how big of emphasis Kuroko’s Basketball puts on hair color and personality, you would think they made Midorima with the obvious green-haired trait in mind – jealousy. A show about just amazing players, that would make sense. However, they opted to go another route in which his green hair denoted a more down to earth and stable nature. He can shoot 3-pointers like no other, but he maintains himself as one of the most balanced players of the Generation of Miracles.

Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon

Unlike other examples, Sailor Neptune and her hair color isn’t representative of her personality, but rather her powers. She has powers inspired by the ocean, so her teal hair makes a lot of sense. In her civilian form, she is the calm and excessively elegant. He green hair can also denote how down to earth she is compared to some of the other girls.

Midoriya from My Hero Academia

As the main character, Midoriya is the one you are supposed to relate to. He is powerless in a fantastic world of powers, and you watch something miraculous happen to him. From there on out, it is his energy and determination that power him through tough obstacles. He is the kind of energetic character that audiences can easily slip into the skin of.

Eureka from Eureka Seven

Set against the rather normal looking people in Eureka Seven, Erueka seems out of place, and while you learn eventually why that is, her green hair does a good job of showing that off immediately. She is calm and often seems cold because of her bluntness. Combine the attitude with the green hair and she seems aloof beyond all other humans. However, she does show a distinct gentle side.

Lubbock from Akame Ga Kill

Lubbock is often one of the most overlooked members of Night Raid. His abilities aren’t exactly flashy and his personality isn’t exactly original. However, at the times where he does shine, which oddly enough is after most of the others have died, you get to see him as a rather cheerful and energetic part of the organization. He often keeps spirits up when they rightfully should not be.

Midori from Midori Days

Any girl would despair if she woke up to find herself shrunk down and replacing a boy’s hand. Of course, Midori Days isn’t as lewd as it could have been. Midori, as a character, is cute and bubbly. She is very much a moe character that would have been difficult to abuse. He green hair is very fitting in respects to her personality.

Freed Justine from Fairy Tail

Much of the time, Freed is pretty detached even from people he considers friends. However, even when he abandons them to follow Laxus’s will, you still see that he cares. Despite being calm and collected, you will also see a lot of moments where Freed is just plain silly like his bright green hair color suggests as well.

Kaede from Assassination Classroom

The neat thing about Kaede is that her hair isn’t actually green. She dyed it. In fact, it seems as though she dyed it to specifically match the characteristics attributed to green hair. She wanted to be bubbly and energetic, but also the unassuming character known for background support, but not attention. This is super neat considering who she really is.

Makishima from Yowamushi Pedal

Not unlike Kaede above, Makishima’s hair is also specifically dyed green with red stripes. However, he doesn’t have such a good reason, or any reason. Mostly Makishima is that one weirdo we all know. The one with the weird lanky body and the strange sense of fashion. While he often comes off as creepy, he also has a deep care for his friends.

Tsuruya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

In a series of energetic characters, Tsuruya really brings the pain in that regard. As Mikuru’s best friend, she counters her meekness by being ridiculously loud and hyperactive. As a tomboy, she continues to counteract Mikuru’s personality and steal whatever scene she is present in.

Gon from Hunter x Hunter

Like many other shounen heroes, Gon is the type of character in which the audience wants to slip in the skin of. At the beginning and even just glancing at his character design, he looks like nothing special. However, as his power grows, you too feel his growth. As a shounen protagonist and with that green-tinged hair, he is known for energy and determination. However, it is also a throwback to the amount of time he spent in the woods as a child as well.

Tatsumaki from One Punch Man

A green-haired tsundere, that’s what Tastumaki is. Naturally, she has a soft spot for her sister and hates being called brat. On the more negative side of green hair, a tsundere attitude fits well. Furthermore, she shows some notes of jealousy when it comes to power. She likes to think she is strong, but really hates being called out that others are better.

Jae Ha from Yona of the Dawn

As the green dragon in Yona of the Dawn, much like his other fellows, Jae Ha values freedom more than everything else. He doesn’t want to be tied down by destiny or any other part of life. As such, you see him project a certain air of both confidence and vanity. Yet, he is persistent and observant of those around him. This leads to a certain grounded nature.

Erin from Kemono no Souja Erin

While Erin’s hair is very much inherited from her Mist People origins, as a small town girl, she is a true child of the Earth. She has a great care for the war beasts that her family raises, and is a magnificent character to view war through the eyes of. While she is kind and collected, in this case, her green hair very much is a reflection of her connection to the earth.

Watanuki from Servamp

Watanuki is another impish green-haired character. While he is actually a vampire, he constantly spreads tales of nearby vampires to scare his classmates. Only one friend knows his true status. However, outside of vampire activities, he is actually a pretty big class clown, but that belittles his dark past.

Shigure from Shuffle

Shigure is a poster child for moe girls. While responsible and diligent, she is also very cheerful. Yet while she is hard-working she does have a tendency to depend on others. Often much of her personality is conflicting, but honestly quite real in its traits. It gives her a certain amount of cuteness as well as making her relatable.

Kaiser Beelzebub IV from Beelzebub

I mean, as a baby, Beelzebub doesn’t have a huge amount of personality, but moe is moe and babies are pretty moe. As a demon king, he finds himself impressed by strength and attracted to evil, but while still weak, he tries to force his way through even simple problems. You have to hand it to this show for making a baby character itneresting.
